Adc (analog to digital convertion) is a device used to convert analog signals (continuous signals) into digital signals (1 and 0)

Any analog device that will be processed by a digital tool definitely requires adc

The opposite of adc is dac (digital to analog convertion)

An example of an adc circuit is on the phone

When you speak or record sound on the phone then the sound signal (analog) buddy must first be converted into digital data

Examples of 8 bit adc will have as much accuracy as 255 values, 10 bit adc will have as much accuracy as 1024 values

The comparator function in the adc circuit is to compare the input voltage with the reference voltage

The comparator is basically composed of an operational amplifier

The simultaneous adc circuit in the picture above has 8 comparators. Each comparator will output 1 if the input voltage of the input into the comparator is greater than the Vref voltage

Once through the comparator the next data will be fed to the encoder and from this encoder output signal will be generated

The lack of a simultaneous decoder is to create an adc with 8 bit resolution should require 255 comparators

To create a 10-bit adc it takes 1024 comparators
