If the transformer used to build a symmetrical power supply is a Non CT transformer then the circuit that can be made is a half wave power supply circuit

Meanwhile, if the transformer used is a transformer type of CT then the resulting circuit is a full wave symmetrical power supply circuit

How the symmetrical power supply circuit works

Suppose you build a symmetrical power supply full wave with AC 12V input voltage then with the resulting output is positive voltage (+ 12V), neutral voltage (0V) or ground, and negative voltage (-12V)

  • between positive and neutral points there is a potential difference of 12V
  • between the neutral point and the negative point there is a potential difference of 12V
  • between positive and negative points there is a potential difference of 24V

Generally symmetrical power supply only drains current from positive pole to neutral or from neutral to negative pole and not from positive pole to negative pole

Power supply is symmetrical on the amplifier

A symmetrical power supply on the amplifier is taken because the loud speaker needs an AC current to emit a sound

At the amplifier end of the amplifier there are 2 pieces of transistors are normally the type 2N3055 and MJ2955

And because the two transistors above work interchangeably (not possible together active) Then, if the second output transistor is tied through the loudspeaker to the neutral or ground voltage it will generate AC current on the loud speaker and the loudspeaker will speak
